Rutgers iSchool LIS faculty and doctoral students will attend the 2024 Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) conference in Portland, Oregon, from October 14 to 17. ALISE '24, the premier annual library and information science (LIS) professional gathering will focus on this year’s theme, 'The Ethics and Evolution of Truth and Information.'
Attendees will participate in a range of presentations, discussions, and panels related to this theme, including explorations of
how library and information professionals define, interrogate, and uphold notions of truth,
the impact of innovations in information creation and dissemination on people and communities, and
the ethical questions that arise from the rapid adoption of new tools and technologies pertaining to the creation, remixing, and sharing of information.
Related topics include using AI technologies and creating and spreading information and misinformation on social media.
School of Communication and Information participants include Lilia Pavlovsky, Director of the Master of Information Program and Teaching Professor of Library and Information Science; Marie Radford, Associate Teaching Professor of Library and Information Science; Joyce Valenza, and doctoral students Juliana Mestre, Catherine McGowan, Kaitlin Montague, and Alexandra Pucciarelli. The keynote speaker is Steve Easterbrook, Ph.D., Director of the School of the Environment and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Toronto.
