As in 1987, the School has two departments - the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. With the formation of the School, a new four year honours degree, the Bachelor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, was offered. The School also offered the Bachelor of Science, a three year degree. In 2002, the School started offering two additional degrees: the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (BE(Hons)) and the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design (BCGD). In the BE (Hons) degree, students can enrol in the Software Engineering programme. Other engineering programmes are offered by the School of Engineering. In 2018, the Bachelor of Design was introduced, replacing the BCGD. This degree has the four majors of Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interface Design and Media Design. In 2014 we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the internet in New Zealand - an achievement made possible in 1989 with the help of the School. We also launched New Zealand's first MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in 2013 and have introduced the country's first Cyber Security Lab and Master of Cyber Security. In 2016, the School was accepted as a member of iSchools, making it the first iSchool in New Zealand. iSchool Contacts Nicholas (Nic) Vanderschantz Representative Information Behaviour, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Architecture, Information Visualisation Contact Annika Hinze Head of School Contact Contact

At Heinz College, we’ve understood this since our founding. Our first Dean, William W. Cooper, had a vision of educating students for "intelligent action,” and this is still our primary objective. In our educational programs, we accomplish this through a foundation of data analytics, technology, and experiential learning. Regardless of whether you come here to study Arts Management or Information Security or anything in between, your experience will be built on these elements. Our research programs are best described as data-intensive social science. Our economists, statisticians, operations researchers, computer scientists, and management experts sit side by side, collaborating constantly and not sitting in traditional departmental silos. For this reason, they are able to approach complex societal problems in an altogether different way. The unique co-location of our two schools, the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management, offers opportunities for collaboration that simply cannot be duplicated elsewhere. We also offer two ground-breaking Joint Degree Programs with the CMU College of Fine Arts. Our faculty and students know that exciting things happen when disciplines collide, when differing perspectives come into contact with one another. iSchool Contacts Kirsten Martin Dean Ethics of Technology Contact Jackie Speedy Associate Dean of College Contact Sara Moussawi Sr. Director of the School of Information Systems Contact

Furthermore, the MSc and PhD projects supervised by those Faculty members are developed at ALGORITMI. ALGORITMI Research Center focuses its activity on projects that explore a strong link with the community, namely, the industry and the public administration. The University of Minho is located in an industrialized region with an important expression on textile and footwear industries and an emerging field on ICT services enterprises, pushed by the e-phenomena age. The automotive industrial field also gained recently an important share of the regional market. Another external factor that influences our target field of application is the growth of the cities in the region, which introduces several demands for the co-operation of researchers, namely in the field of logistics, communication, e-government, health and resource management. The results of this policy are stated by the number of applied research projects in cooperation with companies (funded by ANI and QREN) and by specific national projects, namely POSI, POCTI and POE programmes. iSchool Contacts José Machado Director of Center Habilitation Contact Contact Contact
