Its orientation seeks the development of research, teaching, continuing education, and the teaching services it provides to the Information Science, Library Science Career, to the postgraduate courses of the faculty and to other programs of the University. Also, the advice and consultancies offered to public and private institutions, attended by an interdisciplinary work team. The Department, since 1985, has worked on the development of Information Science because of further evolution of the disciplines that study information and documents. This evolution that is perceived from the consideration of Information as a practical or empirical problem, represented in the management of supports, the transfer of information, the refinement of instruments for the efficient retrieval of information in the Bibliography, Library Science and Documentation, to a vision of information as part of the problem of development and construction of knowledge in the different areas of knowledge. The Department of Information Science is a unit where the processes of acquisition, organization, preservation, conservation, increase and availability of recorded human knowledge are investigated, evaluated, and developed. A core theme of the Institute’s research and teaching interest centres broadly around the use and processing of information in the digital age. Of particular interest in this respect is the interface between the user and an information system. Some current application domains include lifestyle decision making (e.g. food and exercise choices), pedestrian navigation, search and personal information management, backed up more broadly with a track record in dialogue-based interactions that combine knowledge acquisition, natural language processing and information retrieval. The Doctoral Seminar Series is an ongoing forum in which doctoral students present their work to faculty and peers, and receive advice and mentorship from senior researchers. View all communities Doctoral Students The iSchools Doctoral Seminar Series is an ongoing forum in which PhD students can present and promote their research, and receive feedback from peers and more senior scholars. It also allows them to establish partnerships and collaborations across boundaries. PhD students at all stages of their academic career are welcome to listen or to present, regardless of location. Professors and experienced scholars are especially welcome to join in order to share their thoughts and to give feedback. Presenters are invited to structure their session as they like. The presentation does not need to be unique to the colloquium. It can be a rehearsal of a future conference presentation, or even preparation for the formal doctoral defense. SHU is among the first batch of pilot projects of high-level university construction in Shanghai, and is one of the universities that focus on building their preponderant disciplines into first-rate ones on the list of the Ministry of Education. The School of Cultural Heritage and Information Management of Shanghai University was formally established on December 6, 2021, based on the Department of Library, Information and Archives of Shanghai University, the Major of Archaeology of the College of Arts, and the Basic Science Research Institute of Cultural Heritage Protection. At present, the college has 5 national talents, 10 provincial and ministerial talents, and 5 of them are the chief scientists of 973, the chief experts of the national key research and development program, and the chief experts of the national Social science Fund major projects. One serves as the vice chairman of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the vice chairman of the China Association of Museums; two serve as the vice chairman of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Institutions of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education; and one serves as the vice chairman of the China Association of Cultural Relics Protection Technology.
