The Information and Records Management Department was established in 1972 under the name of Library and Documentation Institute. The Department, which admitted its first students to the undergraduate program in October 1974, has created a different model from other librarianship departments due to its formation characteristics and the reasons foreseen by the university. The five-year undergraduate program underwent a structural change in 1993, and was divided into the departments of Librarianship, Archiving, Documentation, and Information. Starting from the 2002/2003 academic year, the Departments of Librarianship, Archiving, Documentation, and Information were combined.
The Department of Librarianship has started its educational activities under the name of Information and Document Management Department with a new program. From the outset, the department has adopted an interdisciplinary approach in both teaching and research. Since its involvement in teaching, the department has aimed to create an academic and intellectual environment that will provide its students with the best professional knowledge in theory and practice problems.
