About the Event

DESIRES 2027 is the 5th International Conference on the Design of Experimental Search & Information REtrieval Systems.

Technology is transforming the way we search for, consume, and use information. DESIRES brings together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry who work on search and retrieval systems to present and discuss innovative and visionary ideas in the field.

The conference is designed for discussion and exploration. It provides a venue for thought-provoking and unconventional work, including prototype systems, lessons learned from building or deploying search systems, position statements, research agendas, provocations, and promising early-stage ideas.

Topics include the future of information interaction, AI-assisted information seeking, agentic information retrieval, retrieval-augmented generation, knowledge-grounded search, large language models as knowledge sources, user-centred retrieval and personalization, explainability and responsible AI, misinformation and manipulation in search results, and efficiency tradeoffs in LLM-based retrieval systems.

Important dates:

• Abstract submission: 17 December 2026
