  • Assistant/Associate Professor Tenure System in Game Studies

    Michigan State University, Media and Information Application Deadline: January 15, 2023 The Department of Media and Information (M&I) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member to serve as Director of our Serious Games Certificate (SGC) program while continuing their research, publication, and teaching efforts. We welcome applications from emerging and established scholars at the Assistant or Associate rank who have sufficient relevant experience in Game Studies with terminal degrees from a related discipline, such as anthropology, communication, computer science, design, engineering, history, human-computer interaction, human-machine communication, information science, psychology, science & technology studies, sociology, or socio-technical systems. Scholars who examine socially-relevant topics (e.g., diversity, equity, inclusion, race, class, gender, sexuality, age, education, health, and disability) and their relationship to games are especially encouraged to apply. Expected start date is August 15, 2023. The SGC is a three-course, transcriptable, graduate certificate that can be completed either in a hybrid (in-classroom/online) or fully online format. The SGC Director is expected to lead the program’s recruitment, teaching, and long-term strategy with the administrative support of the M&I staff and other associated faculty. Candidates will be expected to continue to gain visibility through peer-reviewed academic publications or a combination of peer-reviewed publications and juried creative works. Candidates are expected to pursue external funding to support their research and/or creative activity. In addition, candidates will teach in our undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as advise graduate students.   • UW-Milwaukee School of Information Studies (SOIS) Update: Fall 2022

    The School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is pleased to share recent news. A New Home and a Vist from the Vice President In August, SOIS moved to its new facilities in the Northwest Quadrant on the UWM campus. The new spaces provide state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs and common spaces for gatherings. In late September, the School was selected to host a visit by U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris who met with UWM students and Milwaukee Latinx leaders. New Faculty and New Programs SOIS is pleased to welcome Dr. Hyerin Bak, who recently joined the iSchool as a Teaching Faculty member to support the Information Science and Technology and Master of Library & Information Science program. Dr. Bak joins Assistant Professor Dr. Wan-Chen Lee, who teaches knowledge organization and data curation and conducts research in knowledge organization, and Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Julaine Clunis, who brings expertise in knowledge organization and information technology areas, who both joined SOIS last academic year. This fall, SOIS launched a new BS program in Data Analytics, co-hosted with the College of Letters and Science. The School also recently began to offer graduate certificates as part of the Master of Science in Information Science and Technology program, or as stand-alone certificates. The new graduate certificate programs include: Cyber Crime Forensics, Graduate Certificate, co-hosted by the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology.
