  • Associate Professor, Professor Teaching Track - Library and Information Science

This position will teach primarily graduate students in the MLIS program. Teaching professors are an integral part of the faculty of the iSchool. We provide mentorship, a career path, and opportunities for leadership in the school. This is a full-time appointment at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or Teaching Professor. This position includes faculty voting rights but is not tenure eligible. The University of Washington is on the quarter system (autumn, winter, spring) and teaching professors typically teach two courses per quarter (6 courses over 9 months) with summers off.   • Professor of Practice – Future of Libraries, Distinguished Practitioner in Residence

    University of Washington, The Information School Application Deadline: March 10, 2023. The University of Washington Information School (iSchool) is a leader in education and research on the future of archives, libraries, and librarianship. We seek a creative, forward-thinking Professor of Practice to contribute to this area by bringing their experiences and insights as a library practitioner. The Professor of Practice will serve as a bridge between academia and the library profession and will lead the way towards enhancing the education of future librarians. They will be able to contribute to the teaching mission of the iSchool in several ways: by teaching courses in the MLIS program; by revising current core courses; by integrating some of the iSchool’s cross-disciplinary courses into the MLIS curriculum; and by developing new courses and specializations related to their areas of expertise and interest, helping to shape the MLIS curriculum to better reflect the needs of the future of libraries. The Professor of Practice will also have the opportunity to bring their vision, expertise, and leadership experience to bear on a particular aspect of the library field to which they wish to contribute new ideas and knowledge in the form of a practice-based research or design project. This may involve engagement with students, other faculty, and other institutions, depending on the scope and nature of the project, but the results will be made available to the field through presentations, publications, and other dissemination methods appropriate to the work.   • Data Engineer

    Indiana University, Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at IUPUI Application Deadline: February 28, 2023. The ETL Data Engineer supports data collection, transformation, and loading efforts across the center, including data deriving from, and transferred to, statistical as well as geographic information system workflows. This involves establishing Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) workflows to support projects across the center; identifying and evaluating data sources for quality, reliability, and appropriateness; and migrating and integrating datasets as needed for analysis.   • Nominations invited for 2022 Downs Intellectual Freedom Award

    The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks nominations for the 2022 Robert B. Downs Intellectual Freedom Award. The deadline for nominations is March 15, 2023. The award is cosponsored by SAGE Publishing. Given annually, the award acknowledges individuals or groups who have furthered the cause of intellectual freedom, particularly as it impacts libraries and information centers and the dissemination of ideas. Granted to those who have resisted censorship or efforts to abridge the freedom of individuals to read or view materials of their choice or to hear or express ideas, the award may be in recognition of a particular action or a long-term interest in and dedication to the cause of intellectual freedom. The Downs Award was established in 1969 by the iSchool’s faculty to honor Dean Emeritus Robert B. Downs, a champion of intellectual freedom, on the occasion of his twenty-fifth anniversary as director of the School. Previous winners have included: #FReadom Fighters (TX) and the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom (2021) staff for their contributions in the defense of intellectual freedom; Amy Dodson, Director, Douglas County Public Library, Nevada (2020) for supporting the value and necessity of equity, diversity, and inclusion as a part of her library's mission and service.; the Education Justice Project, for its defense of the First Amendment rights of incarcerated individuals (2019); the Iowa Library Association (2018) for taking a leadership role in several highly visible challenges to intellectual freedom; and the Kansas City Public Library (2017) for its defense of a library patron’s First Amendment rights. SAGE Publishing provides an honorarium to the Downs Award recipient and, with the iSchool, co-hosts the reception held in honor of the recipient. The reception and award ceremony for the 2022 Downs Intellectual Freedom Award will take place in June 2023 at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago.
