Back to Tracks Doctoral Colloquium The iConference Doctoral Colloquium provides doctoral students the opportunity to present their work and engage with their peers and faculty members in a setting that is relatively informal, but allows for high-quality intellectual interactions. Navigation Overview Application Participation Timeline Chairs Overview During iConference 2026, participation in the Doctoral Colloquia will be restricted to those students who have applied and been accepted; the colloquia will not be open to observers. Applications to participate in our Doctoral Colloquia are encouraged from any and all doctoral students. We are seeking broad representation, and participation is not limited to students from member iSchools; Ph.D. students from any university are encouraged to apply. Conditions : Please note that accepted applicants must register during the Early Bird registration period for the conference to take part in the Doctoral Colloquium at iConference 2026. The organizers reserve the right to withdraw the acceptance if these conditions are not met. Virtual and Onsite We plan to offer two Doctoral Colloquia, one on-site in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK and one virtual. We want to give all applicants the choice to pick the type of session that is most convenient for them, and welcome applications from across the globe to join us in Edinburgh if you are able to travel. For those who can not join us in Edinburgh we would like to provide the opportunity to participate in an online session during the virtual part of the conference. This approach will help us better target the needs of our Doctoral Colloquium participants. Please indicate your preference of participation in the application. Application Student participants in each of our doctoral colloquia will be selected by the chair committee. Application materials will be submitted as a single pdf document to our ConfTool submission site by 20 October 2025 . All materials must be in English, and include the following two sections: Section 1 : A short introductory statement explaining: who the applicant is, their institutional affiliation, supervisors, and (provisional) thesis title; the applicant's preference of participation: onsite or online the applicant’s interest in the colloquium; the applicant’s current stage of their graduate career (beginning, completion of required courses or initial candidacy stage, full doctoral status, data collection and analysis, about to submit thesis etc); an explanation of what they hope to get out of attendance at the doctoral colloquium. Section 2 : A research statement of no more than 500 words describing their dissertation project. Submission Portal Conftool Participation and Format Accepted applicants must register during the Early Bird registration period for the conference to take part in the Doctoral Colloquium at iConference 2026. In order to promote extended interaction among conference attendees and students, those accepted for the virtual doctoral colloquium will be expected to meet the following obligations after they have been accepted: Register for the iConference during the early-bird period, and participate throughout the entire iConference. Preparations : a 3-page (single spaced) dissertation research summary document Prepare a brief presentation to be made during the event. Prepare questions they would like to ask of doctoral colloquium mentors, either formally in the panel or informally during the day. The colloquium is projected to be a 90-minute to half-day event, with multiple small group discussions. We will focus on collaborative inquiry and scholarly discourse with peers and experienced faculty serving as mentors. More detail on participation will be provided prior to the session.     Basic Members Directory University of Montréal École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l'information Basic Canada North America Member Since 2017 Visit School About L'École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l'information (EBSI) est une école professionnelle de la Faculté des arts et des sciences (FAS) dont les programmes de maîtrise en sciences de l'information et de doctorat en sciences de l'information relèvent des Études supérieures et postdoctorales (ESP). L'EBSI est en filiation directe avec l'École des bibliothécaires, fondée en 1937. Totalement restructurée en 1961, elle devient partie intégrante de l'Université de Montréal sous le nom d'École de bibliothéconomie. De 1961 à 1970, elle dispense un programme de baccalauréat en bibliothéconomie en 1 an (1961 à 1966) puis en 2 ans (1966 à 1971). À l'instar des autres écoles canadiennes et américaines, et pour se conformer aux exigences de l'agrément de l'American Library Association (ALA), l'École de bibliothéconomie dispense, à partir de la décennie 1970, un programme de maîtrise. Le programme, agréé par l'ALA, exige que les étudiantes et étudiants admis en maîtrise, 1er grade terminal dans la discipline, possèdent à l'admission un 1er cycle universitaire dans n'importe quel domaine du savoir, sciences, sciences sociales, sciences humaines, sciences de la santé, science politique, ingénierie, etc. L'École a obtenu l'agrément de l'ALA pour la 1re fois en 1969 et son agrément lui fut successivement renouvelé en 1976, 1985, 1992, 2000, 2008 et 2015. Cette évaluation en profondeur a valeur de reconnaissance de qualité pour l'École qui, ayant obtenu l'agrément, peut participer au réseau des écoles agréées nord-américaines. Pour ses diplômées et diplômés, l'agrément ouvre le vaste marché de l'emploi relié aux champs disciplinaires des sciences de l'information au Québec, bien sûr, mais aussi dans l'ensemble du Canada et aux États-Unis. De 1971 à 1984, l'École a décerné un diplôme de maîtrise en bibliothéconomie (M.Bibl.). En 1984, l'École a pris le nom d'École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l'information et le libellé du diplôme de maîtrise a été changé en maîtrise en bibliothéconomie et sciences de l'information (M.B.S.I.). Et depuis l'automne 2017, l'EBSI collabore à un programme de 2e cycle de la Faculté des arts et des sciences, le diplôme d'études supérieures spécialisées en édition numérique (D.E.S.S.). Enfin, en 2016, l'EBSI est admise comme membre des iSchools, un consortium international d'écoles offrant des programmes d'études supérieures en sciences de l'information et dont les activités de recherche sont consacrées à l'avancement de la discipline. The initiative to join the iSchools comes from the emerging group on digital humanities, artificial intelligence, natural language processing and information retrieval in the Brittany region in France. PhD students are often co-supervised by faculty members of the three universities in the Alliance. More boradly, University of Brest offers more than 250 degree programmes in the fields of science, humanities, technology, medicine and law, to 23,000 students, among which 9% are international (representing 100 nationalities). More than 150 PhD theses are defended each year. Asia Pacific Region All iSchools Communities AP Next Generation Committee The iSchools Asia-Pacific Next Generation Committee was launched in 2022 by the Asia-Pacific regional iSchools in conjunction with the iSchools Board. The purpose of this AP-iSchools sub-organization is to maximize the visibility and communication among the next generation researchers, to enhance academic initiatives and mutual support, and to empower the AP library and information science community with vitality and to cultivate future leaders in the information field.     Basic Members Directory National Taiwan Normal University Graduate Institute of Library and Information Studies, College of Education Basic Asia Pacific Member Since 2016 Visit School About The groundwork of the Taiwan’s first education effort in Library and Information Studies(LIS) began in 1955, as an undergraduate track within the Department of Adult and Continuing Education at the National Taiwan Normal University. To nurture advanced talents for library and information services in meeting the needs of our knowledge-based society, the University established an independent Graduate Institute of Library and Information Studies in 2002. In 2005, we initiated the In-service Master Program of Library and Information Studies, providing professional development opportunities for in-service library and information service practitioners, with emphasis on knowledge and skills of information technologies. Cooperating with the University’s Fine Arts Department, History Department and Chinese Department, in 2006 we launched the Digital Content and Creative Teaching Advanced Certification Program, for further promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and nurturing digital content talents. The Institute was granted the permission by the Minister of Education in 2008 to launch the Ph.D. program, and recruited doctorate students for the first cohort in June 2009. The goal of our Ph.D. program is to nurture innovative talents for research and leadership in library and information services, in responding to the paradigm shift of library and information research, as well as the trends in the digital society. The SoIT is home to Ohio's first Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Information Technology. In addition, it is home to Ohio's first ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity. The SoIT an average annual growth rate of 18%.
