The newly formed School of Computing is entering a period of significant growth. As one of the three founding departments of the School of Computing, and as part of this growth process, the Department of Information (iSchool) at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for tenured and tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, to begin Fall 2027. Candidates will be expected to conduct innovative and impactful research and to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Our tenure-track and tenured faculty normally have a 2/1 teaching load, with opportunities for course releases and buyouts. Salaries are competitive.
This is an open-rank, open-area search. We welcome applications from exceptional candidates in any area. We encourage applicants from a broad range of fields to apply. Examples of areas include but are not limited to:
• Archives and Digital Curation
• AI and Health
• Human-Centered AI
• Human-Centered Data Science
• Human-Computer Interaction and Design
• Information Behavior
• Information Security and Privacy
We are particularly interested in information scholars whose expertise spans more than one of these areas, focuses on their intersections, or connects these areas to other areas of the information field and beyond.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a field relevant to their area of research and teaching, or convincingly demonstrate that they will complete the degree before starting (for example, by documenting a scheduled defense).
Candidates for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure must have a substantial record of research, teaching, and service commensurate with that rank at a leading research university.
We seek candidates with outstanding records of research, teaching, mentoring, service, and leadership, with a commitment to shaping the future of the Department and the information field more broadly. Applications should make a compelling case for the intellectual contribution and merit of the candidate's research agenda. Candidates are encouraged to identify the research communities to which they belong and to which their research trajectory will contribute.
