Nanjing University School of Information Management
Nanjing University (NJU) is one of China’s top universities, boasting advanced teaching and research facilities. It consists of three campuses—Guloou, Pukou, and Xianlin—that are home to more than 43,000 students, including more than 12,000 undergraduates and 11,000 graduate students. The School of Information Management is among the 22 schools with 59 departments that comprise the university.
One of China’s key comprehensive universities under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education, NJU dates from 1902, when it was known as Sanjiang Normal School. Over time, NJU has gradually developed multi-disciplinary programs in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technological sciences, life sciences, modern engineering and management.
NJU’s School of Information Management dates from 1913, when Harry Clemens, an American librarian, set up China’s earliest library courses at University of Jinling, one of the predecessors of current Nanjing University. In 1927, Department of Library Science was established at University of Jinling, which was then merged into Nanjing University in 1952. In 1985, Department of Library Science was resumed under the direct supervision of Nanjing University, and then renamed as Department of Information Management in 1992. In November 2011, the Department of Information Management was officially upgraded to School of Information Management.
