Meet the iSchools

College of Information Studies University of Maryland

The College of Information Studies, Maryland’s Information School, is shaping the next phase of the information age.

Situated close to Washington, DC, the information capital of the world, we have a unique advantage. Building on a firm foundation of excellence in library science and information management, our college, known fondly by many alumni as CLIS, has become an iSchool. We continue to be known for excellence in archives, school library media, medical information, children and technology, while broadening our research and teaching base to include: digital libraries; information policy, security, privacy, and ethics; e-government; information retrieval and sense-making; human-computer interaction; social networking and community informatics. We serve corporations, government agencies, non-profits, educational and medical institutions, public libraries, and special libraries. We research the information needs of children to older adults, professionals, people with special needs, and local, national, international, and multi-cultural communities. Our faculty, staff, students, and alumni are proud of how we transform the way individuals, organizations, and communities interact with information.
