iConference 2012 is an excellent venue to share your work and collaborate with others who share your passion and research interests. Papers and poster abstracts will be published in the ACM Digital Library. The iConference is sponsored by the iSchools organization; however, affiliation is not a prerequisite, and we encourage everyone to participate.

Submission Types
Papers
We're looking for full papers, six to eight pages long, reporting original research. Papers should be submitted as PDF files conforming to ACM style. To format your paper in ACM style, please use one of the templates at www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates; please remember to convert your paper to PDF before submission. Each submission should be accompanied by an abstract of up to 150 words. Submissions will be reviewed in a single-blind process (i.e., reviewers will know the identity of authors, but not vice versa). Reviewers will evaluate submissions on criteria such as originality, significance, soundness, clarity, and relevance. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to submit their final versions as Word files, again following the ACM style, and these will be published in the ACM Digital Library.

Posters
We're interested in posters presenting new work, preliminary results and designs, or educational projects. Please submit poster abstracts—one to two pages in length—as PDF files conforming to ACM style. Each submission should be accompanied by an abstract of up to 150 words. Alternative Events
These can include panels, fishbowls, performances, storytelling, roundtable discussions, wildcard sessions, demos/exhibitions, and more. All should be highly participatory, informal, engaging and pluralistic. Please submit proposals using the template below. Proposals should be approximately 1,000 words in length and describe the organizers, participants, purpose, activities, agenda, ramp-up and follow-through. Proposed alternative events will be reviewed for quality and organization of content, justification of format, evidence of interactivity and participatory approaches, and inclusivity/diversity of participation by a sub-set of the Program Committee.

Workshops
These can be half- or full-day. Please submit proposals using the template below. Proposals shoud contatin the following: Title, Organizer(s), Short Abstract, half/full day, proposed format including draft schedule (e.g. can be series of presenters with discussion; presentation/discussion of papers, abstracts, position statements), explanation of how it will appeal to the audience, expected/preferred number of participants, workshop goals or expected outcomes (report, wiki, website, etc), special requests/equipment needs. Proposals will be reviewed by a sub-set of the Programs Committee.

Doctoral Colloquium
This year’s colloquium will be organized around the theme of “inquiry.” Applicants will submit a 1,000 word abstract addressing the question, “What is the nature of inquiry in the information field, what makes it similar to or different from other areas of research, and what challenges have you met in your own research in this regard?” Additional application requirements apply. - 9/30/11: Deadline for DOCTORAL COLLOQUIUM applications.
- Early October: Workshop decisions announced.
- 10/31/11: Final workshop versions due.
- Early November: Decisions made on papers and authors can access reviews.
- Mid November: Decisions made on posters and alternative events; poster authors can access reviews.
- 12/5/11: Final versions due for papers, poster abstracts, and alternative events.
